Democrat On Labor Protests: “Get A Little Bloody When Necessary”
So much for the kinder, gentler language in politics. In a speech before a group of union members in Boston, Rep. Michael Capuano, a Massachusetts Democrat, said fights like the one over collective bargaining in Wisconsin were so important people might need to get their hands dirty–or worse. “Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary.”
The congressman, who’s reportedly considering a Senate campaign against Scott Brown in 2012, didn’t seem at all concerned about charges of using overheated rhetoric in the aftermath of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson. “I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going,” Capuano said, according to the Dorchester Reporter. “This is going to be a struggle at least for the next two years. Let’s be serious about this. They’re not going to back down and we’re not going to back down. This is a struggle for the hearts and minds of America.”
