Dylan Byers Leaves Politico for CNN Gig
Politico’s chief media reporter Dylan Byers has left his On Media blog for a gig at CNN as their senior reporter for media and politics.
“Dylan comes to us from Politico where he distinguished himself as a fearless reporter on all things media, willing to take on political figures and media organizations. He’s fast, provocative — and makes news that people want to talk about,” the editors of CNN’s Money and Politics wrote in a statement.
“Byers is a scoop machine,” wrote the host of CNN’s Reliable SoIurces Brian Stelter. “When I’ve been offline for more than a few hours, the way I see what I’ve missed is by checking his Twitter feed.”
Byers is highly regarded in the media reporting world for his ability to break stories and get media figures to comment on the record. Some of his scoops have become a source of controversy, such as when he broke the story that ABC’s George Stephanopoulos had donated to the Clinton Foundation. Conservative website Washington Free Beacon alleged that they had the story first, and ABC only gave Byers the scoop when they asked for comment. More recently, Mediaite’s Joe Concha criticized Byers for crediting Politico with a scoop that was actually his.
