Eight Players on Iranian Women’s Soccer Team Are Dudes

womenfootball_tAt least eight players on Iran’s national women’s soccer team were revealed to actually be men.

“[Eight players] have been playing with Iran’s female team without completing sex change operations,” announced an Iranian official close to the team, according to Al-Arabiya. The same official revealed that many had played as women their entire career, but announced they were actually men on the day they retired.

What’s more, this isn’t even the first time Iran has been caught fielding male players. The Telegraph reported that seven players were dismissed in 2014 after the league required teams to test a player’s sex before signing them.
