With details slowly emerging out of Dallas moments ago where officers have been shot following protests, CNN’s Don Lemon spoke with one of the eyewitnesses to the loud gunfire.
Amanda Marie Klein spoke with Lemon by phone, telling the host that she was walking her dogs when, “we started hearing ‘pop, pop, pop, pop, pop’.” Klein admitted that most people did not at first think they were hearing gun fire, but panic broke out soon after. CNN has confirmed that three officers have been shot, though their conditions are currently unknown.
“I don’t think I ever ran so fast in my life,” she recounted. “It was pure chaos, like nothing that I’ve ever seen.” Klein said that there was some hesitation from people, who needed a moment to register what was going on. “Could this really be happening?”
Gunfire erupted around 9 p.m. ET from a rifle directed at police officers at some point during a rally against the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile at the hands of law enforcement.
