Footage Emerges of Sanders’ 1963 Arrest at School Segregation Protest
Bernie Sanders has talked a lot on the campaign trail about his past civil rights activism, and now footage has surfaced of his 1963 arrest at a protest against segregation.
The video posted by Kartemquin Films shows a young man being taken away by the police protesting school segregation in Englewood, Chicago.
Is this Bernie Sanders being arrested? from Kartemquin Films on Vimeo.
Sanders campaign staffers confirmed yesterday that yes, that is Sanders in that footage being arrested. The Democratic presidential candidate was 21 at the time.
That past activism has been brought up many times recently after black members of Congress supporting Clinton questioned Sanders’ record on civil rights.
