GOP State Rep Commits Suicide After Denying Sexual Misconduct Allegations

A Kentucky lawmaker took his own life just days after he denied allegations of sexual misconduct.

According to a report from a local radio station, Republican state Rep. Dan Johnson reportedly shot and killed himself on a bridge in Mt. Washington, KY. Police told WDRB they have recovered the gun he used.

On Monday, The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting published an exposé with an accuser, who was friend of his daughter, saying that Johnson raped her when she was 17 years old. She alleged that the assault took place in 2012 at a New Years Eve sleepover party when he was a pastor.

Johnson dismissed the allegation.

“This allegation concerning this lady, this young girl, absolutely has no merit,” he said Tuesday. “It is the season. Last election it seemed to be racism. This election it seems to be sexual impropriety.”

We will update this story as it develops.
