Herman Cain Defends Ben Carson From Media Blitz: Politico Did the Same Thing to Me
In an article on his Facebook page, Cain said Politico “fueled the media frenzy” against his own 2011 presidential campaign in a similar manner as Carson’s, publishing inaccurate stories about his past. “They ran reruns of the same false accusations over 700 times!” Cain wrote.
In 2011, with Cain leading the Republican primary polls, Politico published an article that resurfaced decades-old sexual harassment accusations against Cain — charges the former Republican candidate vehemently denies.
In an interview with Fox Business yesterday, Cain said he “could have launched three lawsuits against those three sets of accusations,” but determined it would only distract from the campaign. “But more importantly,” Cain added, “the media frenzy would not stop because they’re not interested in the truth.”
“Ben Carson did not lie, Politico, they fabricated a lie,” Carson said, insisting “it was semantics that they tried to attack him on.”
Cain told the Daily Beast he still gets “pissed off about this stuff.”
“Ben Carson is not only a conservative, he is a conservative who happens to be black. There is only one group of people that liberals hate worse than conservatives, and that’s conservatives who happen to be black,” Cain said, adding liberals “resent conservatives who happen to be black for leaving the Democrat plantation.”
“If someone still wants to believe Ben Carson lied, you probably were not going to support him anyway. That’s your choice” Cain wrote. “I just wanted to set the record straight for those interested in the truth, because the frenzied media led by Politico were not interested in the truth in 2011 when I was attacked. They are not interested in the truth in 2015 either!”
