Former Pennsylvania Governor and prominent Clinton supporter Ed Rendell says he’s sorry for saying that Hillary Clinton would be president because she carries the “ugly women” vote.
According to The Associated Press, Rendell spoke to them Wednesday night about how much he regretted his “incredibly dumb and selfish” comments about how Clinton would defeat Donald Trump. Rendell also insisted that he was mocking his own physical appearance at the time, and that the point he was getting at was that “there’s more of us than there are of them.”
Even as Trump is dogged by accusations of misogyny, Rendell’s blunder was picked up during a Washington Post discussion about the mogul’s appeal among suburban women. Rendell is a surrogate for the Clinton campaign, and it blew up on social media when he gave the following analysis of Trump’s chances:
“Trump’s comments like “You can’t be a 10 if you’re flat-chested,” that’ll come back to haunt him. There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women. People take that stuff personally.”
