President Donald Trump celebrated the stunning primary victory of Democratic Socialist Angie Nixon, who toppled one of the most recognizable figures from his first impeachment, retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, in Florida’s Senate race Tuesday.
“SleazeBag Vindman loses tonight to a Radical Left Lunatic. How cool is that???” Trump jabbed on Truth Social after the race was called.

Nixon, a Florida state representative and member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), defeated Vindman by roughly 56% to 44% with most of the expected vote counted, overcoming a staggering fundraising disadvantage against the former National Security Council official.
Vindman raised more than $16 million for his campaign, compared with about $975,000 for Nixon, according to Florida Politics.
The result handed Trump an opportunity to take a victory lap over a longtime political adversary while he simultaneously celebrated a string of Republican primary results Tuesday night.
“A lot of great WINS tonight!!!” Trump wrote in another post.
Vindman emerged as a central figure in Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 after testifying before Congress about the president’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump was impeached by the House over allegations that he pressured Zelensky to investigate former President Joe Biden and his family while military assistance to Ukraine was being withheld. The Senate later acquitted him.
Vindman leaned heavily into that history during his Senate campaign, declaring in his launch video that he’d held to his “oath to tell the truth” about the president “who broke his.”
But Nixon, who has represented parts of Jacksonville in the Florida House since 2020, sealed the victory with backing from prominent progressive Democrats and a campaign focused on Medicare for all, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and ending U.S. aid to Israel.
Nixon will now face Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL) in November.
