In Leaked Email, Colin Powell Called Dick Cheney ‘Idiot’

Among the trove of leaked Colin Powell emails to surface Wednesday was a missive in which former Secretary of State blasted his former Bush administration colleague Vice President Dick Cheney, as an “idiot.”

“They are idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere,” Powell wrote in an email first reported by BuzzFeed.

The book Powell refers to is Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America, co-authored by Cheney and his daughter and former State Department staffer Liz Cheney. The book was released in Sept. 2015.

The emails appeared on the website DCLeaks.com. According to multiple reports, the site has connections to Russian intelligence, indicating that the Powell hack was carried out by similar Kremlin-connected elements that are believed to be responsible for the leak of DNC emails earlier this year.

In other emails, Powell described his exasperation that the Clinton campaign was trying to draw him into the email scandal, dismissed the GOP obsession with Benghazi as a “stupid witch hunt,” and condemned Donald Trump as a “national disgrace.”
