Richard Burr Wins North Carolina Senate Race
In the battleground state of North Carolina, incumbent Senator Richard Burr (R) is defending his seat against Democrat Deborah Ross.
As of Monday afternoon, FiveThirtyEight thought it was “plausible” that Ross could pick up the seat for the Democrats, though unlikely. The site gave Burr 76.1% odds of winning.
Meanwhile, RealClearPolitics’ average of recent polls gave Burr a narrow 2.2-point lead.
Burr was briefly in hot water during the last week of the campaign when he joked about walking into a North Carolina gun shop, seeing a picture of Clinton’s face, and being shocked it didn’t have a bullseye on it. He later apologized for the comments.
The polls close at 7:30 p.m. eastern time. We will update with the reported results as soon as they come in.
UPDATE – 10:20 p.m. ET: Burr is now projected to re-elected to his seat on the Senate. The news means that it will be increasingly unlikely that the Democrats will re-capture the Senate.
