James Comey’s Publisher is Printing a Massive Amount of Copies For Book’s Launch

Earlier this year, Michael Wolff’s controversial White House tell-all Fire and Fury was the book everyone had to get their hands on, with retailers struggling to meet the initial demand. The publisher of ex-FBI Director James Comey’s highly anticipated memoir A Higher Loyalty, therefore, appears to be doing their level best to make sure there are enough copies early on.
As CNN’s Brian Stelter reported today, Macmillan is printing 850,000 copies of Comey’s book for its initial run. For comparison’s sake, Henry Holt and Company — a division of Macmillan — printed out 150,000 copies of Fire and Fury during its first run.
“This is the largest first printing we’ve done so far this year,” Macmillan president Don Weisberg told Stelter.
Fire and Fury kind of took everyone by surprise as it wasn’t until explosive excerpts were dropped, causing the president to attempt to halt the publication, that the book started generating massive buzz. This led to the publisher taking steps to hurriedly print out more copies than they initially anticipated.
When it comes to A Higher Loyalty, however, the yet-to-be-released book has been near the top of Amazon’s best-seller list for weeks after President Donald Trump took to Twitter to complain about the book last month. And after yesterday’s excerpts were leaked, the book once again took over the #1 spot.
Ahead of the April 17 release date, ABC News will air George Stephanopoulos‘ interview with Comey on Sunday night. ABC released preview clips of the interview on Friday that showed the former FBI chief stating the pee tape may possibly exist.
