Kasich Proposes Gov’t Agency to Promote Judeo-Christian Values Around the World
John Kasich today proposed something that conservatives love––the U.S. promoting Judeo-Christian values––with something they aren’t generally crazy about––a new government agency.
Kasich, who now opposes bringing in Syrian refugees after saying the opposite last month, told NBC News today that he thinks the U.S. should set up a government agency with the primary purpose of promoting Judeo-Christian values around the world.
He argued that it’s important to “beam messages around the world” about what freedoms the United States enjoys because of those religious values. Kasich pinpointed the Middle East, China, and Russia as the main areas this government agency would be targeting.
And he understands the issue with adding yet another government agency, but still thinks it’s important to pursue.
The U.S. already has the government-run Voice of America, which broadcasts news all over the world, and George W. Bush created a White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives when he became president. Barack Obama kept it in place (while slightly changing the name).
