Krugman: Why Is Trump Laughed at When Bush, Walker Are Equally ‘Ludicrous’?

Paul-KrugmanPlenty of people, including many within the Republican party, agree that Donald Trump is a joke and completely unserious candidate. Paul Krugman doesn’t dispute that assessment, but questions why only Trump is being singled out.

In a new piece for The New York Times today, Krugman argues that Trump isn’t that much worse than Jeb Bush and Scott Walker when it comes to economics, and even says things that “actually make… him more of an economic realist than his rivals.”

He thinks the media’s making the mistake of assuming Bush and Walker are more serious because they don’t share Trump’s brash style:

Why is Trump regarded as ludicrous, while Bush and Walker are serious? Again, on the substance they’re all ludicrous; but pundits are taken in by the sober-sounding personal style of the runners-up, while voters apparently are not.

Krugman recently said that no one should be shocked that “a belligerent, loudmouth racist with not an ounce of compassion for less fortunate people” is doing well among GOP voters.
