Lindsey Graham: I Don’t Know Why Gyrocopter Wasn’t Shot Out of the Sky
A gyrocopter caused a panic when it landed near the U.S. Capitol today. The man flying it, Doug Hughes, was protesting Citizens United and wanted to make a statement, but he ended up arrested.
Obviously, the fact that it was able to get so close to the Capitol caused a bit of a security crisis, and radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Senator Lindsey Graham why it wasn’t shot out of the sky.
Graham said, “He should have been subject to being shot out of the sky. I don’t know why he wasn’t.”
And then he invoked national security:
“Our nation is under siege. Radical Islam is a threat to our homeland. There are probably radical Islamic cells in our backyard already, and if somebody is willing to approach vital government infrastructure, they should do so at their own peril.”
He then said he’s glad Hughes is alive.
