Madonna Kicks Off World Tour In Israel, Pointing Rifle At Audience
Madonna kicked off her “MDNA” world tour on Thursday with a show in Israel…pointing a rifle at her audience as part of one of her routines. Later in the same show, she spoke about the need for peace in the region, saying the conflict has gone on for too long.
As the AP notes, “Madonna emerged on stage in a confessional, breaking through its glass window using a rifle, which she then aimed at the audience.” That led into her performance of “Girl Gone Wild,” in which her backup dancers were dressed as monks.
Israel, of course, is no stranger to violence, to say the least. Madonna, in the show, wrapped herself in an Israeli flag and called the country the “energy center of the world.” She addressed the conflict in the region, calling for peace. “All the conflicts that occur here and have been occurring for a thousand years, they have to stop,” she said — adding, “We all bleed the same color.”
She further went on to say, “No matter how many percentages of land we give back, no matter how many talks, no matter how many wars, if we don’t treat every human being with dignity and respect, we will never have peace.”
