After 32-year-old Philando Castile was shot by a police officer during a routine traffic stop Wednesday, his girlfriend Lavish Reynolds livestreamed footage of him slowing bleeding to death.
In the Facebook video, Castile can be seen holding onto a bloodied arm as blood slowly turns his white shirt red. From outside the driver’s seat window, a St. Anthony, Minnesota police officer keeps his gun trained on Castile.
“We got pulled over for a busted tail light in the back… they killed my boyfriend,” Reynolds says. “He’s licensed to carry. He was trying to get out his ID and his wallet out his pocket and he let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm.”
In the video, the officer can be heard shouting obscenities, and then an explanation. “I told him not to reach for it!” he shouts. “I told him to get his hands up.”
Watch below, but be warned the video is graphic and very disturbing.
Throughout the remainder of the ten minute video, Reynolds is moved with her daughter out of the car and onto the curb, before she is placed in handcuffs and moved to a police car. Although off-screen, she can be heard sobbing and arguing with the officer. “Please don’t tell me my boyfriend’s gone,” she cries. “He don’t deserve this.”
