Oscar First: Hurt Locker Producer Banned From Academy Awards

Sigh. Maybe Google should create some sort of Gmail goggles for Hollywood producers. It may have saved Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier a whole lot of pain and embarrassment. A few weeks back Chartier apparently took it upon himself to email a group of people, including some Academy voters to encourage them to vote for The Hurt Locker and “not the $500-million film.” BAD IDEA. Everyone knows there are acceptable ways to campaign for a film and all of them involve buckets of money, not badly thought out emails.

Chartier is paying the price now. Tenfold. And this despite the fact he sent out an apology email shortly after the original. From the LA Times:

The [Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences] said Tuesday that Nicolas Chartier, a producer on best picture candidate “The Hurt Locker,” will not be allowed into the Kodak Theatre for Sunday’s ceremony. Chartier’s tickets have been revoked, and he will not be granted entry as a guest of any other attendee, an academy spokeswoman told The Times…Should the film win best picture, Chartier would be given his Oscar at a later date.

Fortunately the movie was not also pulled. In case you have not yet seen, trailer below.
