Sarah Sanders Pressed on Trump’s Pershing Tweet: ‘Does the President Know That the Story Is False?’
In the first on-camera White House press briefing in over three weeks, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was grilled on a number of subjects and issues that had occurred since the last time she had spoken with reporters. One of the topics she was pressed on was President Donald Trump’s tweet earlier this month in which he referenced a false story involving General Pershing executing Muslim terrorists with bullets soaked in pigs blood.
“Does the president know that the story is false, and if so, why does he keep repeating it?” Politico’s Matthew Nussbaum asked Sanders. “And why does the White House think it’s appropriate for the president to perpetuate this false story if he hasn’t been informed that it’s not true?”
“I haven’t had a chance to ask him about this,” the press secretary responded. “I can’t speak to it.”
Following that dodge, Nussbaum pressed Sanders on the notion of Trump is spreading false info encouraging “wartime atrocities” why no one in the White House has thought to address that with him.
“I didn’t say no one had,” the spokesperson stated. “I said I haven’t had that conversation with him.”
And with that, she moved on to another question.
