Sen. Blumenthal Says Democrats ‘Had Nothing To Do’ With Kavanaugh Accusers Coming Forward

Asked this afternoon about comments from President Donald Trump that the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh are a “con job” by Democrats, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-NY) said that Democrats had nothing to do with their coming forward.

“Democrats had nothing to do with these women coming forward. They came forward on their own,” said Senator Blumenthal. “Calling it a ‘con job’, blaming it on Democrats, is more disrespect and disregard for women who are survivors of sexual attack, It is an insult to the survivor community to imply that these women are somehow puppets of Democratic senators, part of a Democratic cabal.”

“They had the courage and strength to give their voices and faces to the cause of the survivor, and they ought to be respected, not demeaned,” said Blumenthal.

Blumenthal’s assertion contradicts what Ronan Farrow told George Stephanopoulos on Monday, when he said that second accuser Deborah Ramirez “came forward because Senate Democrats came looking for this claim.”
