Sen. Gillibrand Recalls Past Harasser: I Couldn’t Tell Him to ‘Go F*ck Himself’

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand kick-started a conversation on sexual harassment weeks ago when she revealed in her book that some male colleagues made inappropriate remarks about her weight and looks. And this was particularly hurtful to her before she was a senator. In her book, Gillibrand writes about a labor leader who told her in order to win the Senate special election (after being appointed to fill Hillary Clinton‘s seat), she would “need to be beautiful again.”

Gillibrand said on HuffPost Live today she was particularly bothered by those remarks. She explained, “If I could have just melted in tears, I would have. But I had to just sit there and talk to him. And I switched the subject, and I didn’t hear another word he said, but I wasn’t in a place where I could tell him to go fuck himself.”

The senator also dismissed the confrontation she had with Mika Brzezinski last week about naming her harassers and said she doesn’t want to make this about her or a specific person.
