SiriusXM Fires Anthony Cumia for ‘Hate-Filled’ Twitter Rant
On Thursday evening SiriusXM fired the Anthony Cumia half of The Opie and Anthony Show after the shock jock posted on Twitter a series of angry messages about a woman who had allegedly punched him late Tuesday evening.
In a long series of NSFW tweets, Cumia described how a black woman had allegedly taken to hitting him after he photographed her in Times Square. He claimed that she called him a “white motherfucker” before assaulting him, and, in turn, he suggested — using all kinds of names along the way — that there is a problem within black culture that automatically leads to violence.
SiriusXM Senior Vice President of Communications Patrick Reilly announced the firing with the following statement:
SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel. The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3 after careful consideration of his racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media. Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents.
It is unclear what The Opie and Anthony Show will become without its eponymous half.
