SNL’s Cecily Strong to Host 2015 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

She may have gotten the boot from Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update desk after just one year, but Cecily Strong just scored a major career victory by landing the hosting gig for next year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

Strong will be the fifth woman to host the dinner in its modern history, after Paula Poundstone (1992), Elayne Boosler (1993), Aretha Franklin (1999) and Wanda Sykes (2009).

“Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent,” WGCA President Christi Parsons said in a statement of Strong, who grew up in Illinois and performed at Chicago’s Second City. Her father served as Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois statehouse.

The annual dinner is scheduled for April 25, 2015 and will mark President Barack Obama’s seventh year on the dais.
