St. Patrick’s Day Parade Organizers to Allow Gay Groups to March

Organizers of New York City’s famed St. Patrick’s Day Parade reversed course Wednesday and announced that LGBT groups will be allowed to march in its annual parade, the largest of its kind in the world.

The exclusion of LGBT groups had led to boycotts of the parade, including by Mayor Bill de Blasio last year, and a loss in sponsorship from Guinness.

No more. According to a statement obtained by the Associated Press, 2015’s parade will include OUT@NBCUniversal, “the employee resource group” for NBCUniversal’s LGBT employees. The organizers will also accept applications from other LGBT groups for future parades, saying their aim was to keep the event “above politics.”
