Teen Sneaks Past Security to Climb WTC, Tweets About It, Gets Guard Fired
Sixteen-year-old Justin Casquejo reached the top of the unfinished 1 World Trade Center tower on Tuesday despite a vaunted security system, and tweeted about his adventure.
The scrawny Casquejo slipped through a gap in a barbed-wire fence, was taken to the 88th floor by an elevator operator despite lacking an ID, and climbed past a snoozing security guard to the 104th floor. He then “ran hog wild” for two hours, according to one WTC worker, before a construction worker finally caught him.
The guard has been fired and the elevator operator reassigned.
According to the New York Post, the Port Authority, the NYPD and two private security companies patrol the WTC. In a court statement, Casuqelo said he had no problem getting past any of them. He allegedly tweeted from the spire:
Inspired.
