Texas Republican: Rick Perry Could ‘Pass For A West Coast Metrosexual’

Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, who completed a failed bid to become that state’s lieutenant governor earlier this year, has some thoughts about Governor Rick Perry’s style choices. In a letter to Austin American-Statesman columnist Ken Herman, Patterson lamented the fact that Perry “could now pass for a West Coast metrosexual” now that he’s stopped wearing cowboy boots.
Giving an impassioned defense of Texas’ signature footwear, Patterson called Perry’s decision to stop wearing boots due to back pain a “feeble excuse.” He wrote, “Tell Rick that boots can be purchased with normal heels. I lament the fact that our governor could now pass for a West Coast metrosexual and has embarrassed us all with his sartorial change of direction.”
That assessment will likely come as a shock to Perry, who just last month found himself in hot water after a visit to San Francisco during which he compared homosexuality to alcoholism.
