This Reporter Took a Stun Grenade to the Face, Then Kept Reporting
A television reporter covering unrest in East Jerusalem returned to work just hours after being injured in the face by a stun grenade during a live broadcast.
Hana Mahameed with Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen TV was covering clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters following the closure of Jerusalem’s old city to all Palestinians who do not live, work or attend school there. According to the Associated Press, Mahameed was reportedly hit in the face by a sound grenade, which promptly exploded. The projectile was one of several fired by Israeli authorities against the protesters.
A colleague of Mahameed, Raed Sobies, told the Independent that Mahameed had “holes in her face and neck” and was advised by doctors to seek immediate medical attention.
“We’ve been looking for someone to relieve her situation but it’s not easy,” said Sobies. Hence why Mahameed returned to work a few hours later to continue reporting on the civil unrest, albeit from a safer distance.

Police spokesperson Luba Samri told the AP that “riot dispersal means” were in use, and “whoever is present with law-breaking rioters risks getting injured.”
