Todd Akin: Claire McCaskill Fetches Taxes, Bureaucracy ‘A Bit Like One Of Those Dogs’
During a fundraiser on Saturday, Missouri’s Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin again garnered attention for his word choice — this time when illustrating his argument that his opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill brings back taxes and red tape from Washington D.C.
“She goes to Washington, D.C., it’s a little bit like one of those dogs, you know ‘fetch,’” Akin said. “She goes to Washington, D.C., and get all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and she brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri.”
“It seems to me that she’s got it just backwards,” he continued. “What we should be doing is taking the common sense we see in Missouri, and taking that to Washington, D.C., and blessing them with more solutions instead of more problems.”
Akin is also now infamous for his “legitimate rape” remarks, and asserting that a woman’s body has means to shut down pregnancy as a result of rape. Despite the chorus of calls from Republicans to drop out, Akin remained in the race. Later on, he also made headlines when he remarked that McCaskill was “very much more sort of ladylike” during her 2006 run.
