Tony Perkins: Trump Gets ‘a Mulligan’ From Evangelicals For Cheating on Wife With Porn Star

Tony Perkins — president of the ultra-conservative Family Research Council — said that President Donald Trump gets “a mulligan” from evangelical voters on his extensive history of, let’s say, impious behavior.

Perkins spoke with Politico about the claims that Trump cheated on his pregnant wife Melania with porn star Stormy Daniels at a golf tournament in 2006, and then had his lawyer pay Stormy $130k to keep quiet about the affair.

“He knows about the cursing, the lewdness and the litany of questionable behavior over the past year of Trump’s life or the 70 that came before it,” Politico’s Edward-Isaac Dovere wrote about his interview with Perkins.

“We kind of gave him—‘All right, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here,’” Perkins told Politico of during a discussion of Trump’s alleged tryst.

Perkins, an arch-conservative evangelical and noted fanatical nutcase, said that Trump’s willingness to stand up for his religion is what has allowed christians to ignore his history: we “were tired of being kicked around by Barack Obama and his leftists. And I think they are finally glad that there’s somebody on the playground that is willing to punch the bully.”

Perkins also recalled that he was in attendance at the infamous 2015 event in which Trump said Sen. John McCain was not a war hero because he was a prisoner in Vietnam. Perkins told Politico he thought those comments would end Trump’s candidacy — only to find that evangelicals “can’t stand John McCain,” and actually agreed with Donald.

Perkins concluded:

As long as Trump doesn’t disappoint evangelicals politically, Perkins predicts, they’ll stick with him. “Whenever the policy stops, and his administration reverts to just personality,” he adds, “that’s where I believe the president will be in trouble.”
