Twitter Flips Over Gary Cohn Resignation: ‘Not for NeoNazis But for Tariffs’

Less than a week after Hope Hicks‘ announcement, Gary Cohn‘s resignation was announced and confirmed by the White House this afternoon, and Twitter flipped out again.
Most of the reactions went towards one of two big observations: 1) that earlier today President Trump was downplaying chaos and talking about how everyone wants to work in the White House, and 2) Cohn reportedly considered resigning over Trump’s Charlottesville remarks but then didn’t.
He withstood Trump's Charlottesville comments, but not the prospect of tariffs.

Cohn: Sounds good!Trump: Nazis are fine people.
Cohn: You said it!Trump: We should tax steel more.

So now we know: Paul Ryan and Gary Cohn draw the line not at neo-Nazis, or sexual assault, or climate change, or Russia, but trade. That is, money.

I don't have a joke for what a joke Gary Cohn is for resigning over TARIFFS and not his boss's tacit embrace of white racists and anti-semites.

The loss of Gary Cohn — the most widely respected member of the senior WH staff — is a big deal.

Gary Cohn deciding to stay on after Charlottesville and then resign over tariffs is an interesting biographical arc for future historians

Gary Cohn: "Um …"

Gary Cohn reportedly thought about leaving last year, over Trump’s response to Charlottesville, equating Neo-Nazis to those protesting against them. But he didn’t leave then.
Instead, he left over tariffs. ??♀️— Ana Navarro (@ananavarro) March 6, 2018
Gary Cohn departs; there will be more. Never had a hemorrhage of top officials like this in the first year-plus of a presidency, much less having more than half of the top 636 policy positions unfilled. Ask yourself: what quality people would come into this administration now?
