TX Club Reportedly Kicks Out Gay Men for Dancing to Country, Would Have Been Fine with Hip-Hop
Two gay men were kicked out of a Texas club for dancing together. The Cactus Canyon has a policy that men cannot dance together; however, this only applies to country music and not rap or hip-hop for some reason, and because Justin Meyer and James Douglas were dancing to the former, they ended up getting kicked out of the club.
Regarding the supposed difference between gay men dancing to country and hip-hop, Douglas said, “So you’re telling me it’s OK for me to bump and grind my boyfriend to the song ‘Bubble Butt,’ but we can’t dance a two-step?”
The director of operations for the club insisted they were not kicked out because they were two gay men dancing together, but because they were getting confrontational. And a corporate spokesperson for Cactus Canyon had this to say.
“For many decades it’s acceptable for women to dance together in all kind of clubs… But it’s not acceptable for men to dance together in the type of business that we run.”
Gearhart says they do in fact have a policy prohibiting men from dancing together, but he says the couple was asked to leave because of the confrontation not because of their sexual orientation.
