Univision Pulls New Ad Telling Hispanics ‘Don’t Vote’

A controversial new ad from the conservative group Latinos for Reform has been pulled by Univision shortly after it debuted in Nevada area markets. It’s been removed from Univision’s Spanish-speaking radio stations and will never air as planned on the company’s television channel. The ad argues that Democrats failed in their promises to introduce immigration reform and then gives viewers a simple instruction on how to “punish” them: Don’t vote.

Latinos for Reform is a group founded by Robert de Posada. Talking Points Memo has information on his background:

“In 1994, according to de Posada, he helped create the Hispanic Business Roundtable, which later became the Latino Coalition, where he was president until 2007. He served as co-director with Dick Armey on Americans for Border and Economic Security, on George W. Bush’s Social Security Commission, and as director of Hispanic affairs at the Republican National Committee until becoming disgruntled with the GOP and settling into conservative advocacy.

He founded Latinos for Reform during the 2008 campaign but only truly activated it recently.”

However you feel about the content in the beginning of the ad, telling citizens that it’s a good idea that they not vote is one of the worst messages you can get out before an election.

Oh, wait. No it’s not. “Vote or Die!” is. This one comes pretty close though.
