Trump-world appears to be splitting.
White House deputy advisor Sebastian Gorka on Thursday forcefully dismissed talk from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that “Americans should sleep well at night,” as it relates to North Korea. Gorka said that Tillerson wasn’t qualified to make that comment.
“[T]he idea that Secretary Tillerson is going to discuss military matters is simply nonsensical,” Gorka said.
Thursday afternoon, the State Department pushed back. During a briefing, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert bristled at the idea that the nation’s top diplomat wasn’t equipped to talk about miltary affairs.
“He’s a cabinet secretary,” Nauert said. “He’s the fourth in line to the presidency. He carries a big stick.”
She added, “I think that everyone has clearly heard what Secretary tillerson’s forceful comments have been and continue to be,” on North Korea.
