Wannabe Whistle-Blower Leaks Spy Docs to 4chan, Users Call It ‘Fake and Gay’
Edward Snowden was hilariously interviewed by John Oliver and will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levit in an upcoming biopic directed by Oliver Stone. Meanwhile, Julian Assange already got his dramatic WikiLeaks movie, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. Michael Scerba managed to garner a few insults from 4chan users before his posts were deleted and he was later caught.
A graduate of Australia’s Department of Defense, Scerba faces charges for allegedly leaking sensitive materials in a 2012 4chan post titled, “Julian Assange is my hero.”
Instead of the widespread acclaim he was probably hoping to attain, 4chan’s users dubbed the post “fake and gay” and buried it in the website’s annals of unpopularity. Due to its poor reception, both it and the uploaded document were deleted an hour later.
Interestingly enough, official court documents reveal that another Department of Defense employee spotted the post and reported it while browsing 4chan. In other words, a person who was wasting time on the Internet while at work is partially responsible for finding, identifying and apprehending Scerba.
The wannabe whistle-blower’s court date hasn’t been set yet. However, he plans on pleading guilty to at least one of the charges brought against him by the state.
