WATCH: Heroic Migrant Scales Four Stories to Save Child Dangling From Balcony, Invited to Apply For Citizenship

Here’s a heartwarming story for your Monday: in a video from France a man can be seen expertly scaling a four-story building to rescue a child dangling from a balcony.

The footage shows the man making it up to the child at an astonishing pace, as the crowd below cheered him on, before grabbing and yanking him over the railing to safety.

It turns out the hero from the video, which went viral over the weekend, is 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama, a migrant from Mali living in France. He met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, and was thanked for the miraculous rescue.

Macron said in a tweet that he would have authorities would fast-track the migrants paperwork. He was awarded a gold medal for the act and offered a job by the fire department.

“To show our gratitude for this heroic act, his immigration status in France will be officially recognized as soon as possible,” Macron wrote. “I have also invited him to apply for citizenship.”

Gassama, according to Le Parisien newspaper, was walking by the building when he saw a crowd gathered watching the child hanging from the balcony of the building. Two people from a neighboring balcony were trying to rescue the child to no avail.

“I did it because it was a child,” Gassama told the newspaper. “I climbed. … Thank God I saved him.”
