Watch Jack Kingston Sheepishly Admit He Has No Clue About the Talking Points He’s Spewing
Since Jeffrey Lord was fired by CNN, former Republican Congressman Jack Kingston has become one of President Donald Trump‘s most high-profile defenders on the network. But if he wants to take over Lord’s many regular primetime appearances, he’s going to have to study his talking points a little better.
Appearing on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, the former Congressman defended Trump during a discussion about Charlottesville by trotting out a White House talking point (via The Atlantic). The talking point stated that ICE recently concluded what is thought to be the largest prosecution of people connected to white supremacist gangs in American history.
“What if ICE just prosecuted the largest group of white supremacists in the history of America? Oh wait, that just happened,” Kingston said.
The CNN panel was visibly perplexed.
“What are you talking about?” Jeffrey Toobin said.
And then Kingston was forced to make a sheepish admission.
“Well…I’m not sure of the details,” he said. “But I know that I was looking at that.”
The CNN panel laughed.
Had Kingston elaborated, he would’ve been made to look even more foolish as he tried to give Trump credit for something that occurred before he took office. Most of the 89 cases that Kingston tried to reference were fully prosecuted long before the 2016 election.
Lemon scolded Kingston for not having the information to back up his arguments.
“Jack, Jack, Jack,…you’ve got to dig deep in the talking points and you have to research them and make sure the talking points are true before you come on television and repeat the talking points,” Lemon said.
