WATCH: Journalist Awkwardly Roars Like Chewbacca During Segment on Death of Carrie Fisher
A GloboNews segment on the death of Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher was briefly derailed when Brazilian journalist Jorge Pontual make an unexpected joke about the celebrity reactions to her death.
“Many people telling how much they loved Carrie Fisher, many celebrities remarking on this loss,” Pontual said in Portuguese.
“But the most emotional reaction was from Chewbacca, that Star Wars character,” he continued. “He said, ‘HHHGGRRRRGRAAAARRR.'”
Pontual delivered the Wookiee roar completely straight-faced, resulting in an awkward silence punctuated by his fellow guests’ giggles. “Very sad,” Pontual added as they chuckled.
After criticism from some in the Brazilian media for being “insensitive,” Pontual tweaked his detractors by tweeting an image of Fisher’s Princess Leia character embracing and kissing Chewie.
