President Donald Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech pitching tax reform in Bismark, North Dakota, this afternoon at 4 PM ET. The event will feature energy workers and is being held at an oil refinery, according to the White House.
The president traveled to Missouri last week to sell tax reform to voters there. During his speech, he targeted Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), telling those in attendance to vote her out of office if she didn’t embrace his administration’s tax plan. However, there have only been scant few details released of the plan so far, with Trump mostly just hyping the need for lower corporate tax rates and a simpler tax code.
While McCaskill wasn’t in attendance for the Missouri tax speech, North Dakota’s Democratic senator, Heidi Heitkamp, is traveling with Trump to today’s speech. While she hasn’t come out and said she supports the White House’s plan, she has stressed the importance for a bipartisan effort on tax reform.
The president’s address on taxes comes during a volatile news cycle, as his administration recently announced it was rescinding DACA. However, Trump later stated that he’d look at the issue again if Congress wasn’t able to pass a legislative replacement. And today, the president indicated that he wanted to see something done, much like the Democratic Congressional leaders.
Meanwhile, Florida is in the path of an extremely dangerous hurricane, just days after Texas and Louisiana were battered by Hurricane Harvey. Regarding emergency funds for Harvey victims, Trump sided with Democrats today by asking that the debt ceiling and government funding would only be extended into December.
