Watch Oprah’s Powerhouse Globes Speech Condemning Sexual Predators: ‘Their Time is Up!’
Oprah Winfrey brought down the house while accepting this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award at 75th Golden Globe Awards for her “incredible impact on the world of entertainment,” which makes the celebrity icon the first African American woman to win the honor.
Winfrey thanked those who have raised all the women who have felt “strong enough, empowered enough to speak up.”
“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men,” Winfrey said, speaking about sexual predators. “But their time is up.”
The celebrity icon joins a list of prestigious names who have received the award in the past, including Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg.
Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Meher Tatna said Winfrey deserved the award for her “unparalleled connection with people around the world.”
“As a global media leader, philanthropist, producer and actress, she has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world, making her one of the most respected and admired figures today,” said Tatna.
Adding to the theme of the Golden Globes — which was focused on channeling pro-women and anti-sexual misconduct messaging — Tatna stated, “For generations, Oprah has celebrated strong female characters on and off screen, and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades.”
