Well, this certainly was a creative answer.

ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Cecilia Vega asked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders when President Donald Trump last visited a grocery store — in light of comments he made at a rally last night in Tampa that you need an ID to buy groceries (you don’t).

“I am not sure and I am not sure why that matters, either,” Sanders replied — trying to brush past the query by calling on Major Garrett of CBS.

Instead, Garrett and several other journalists backed up their colleague and explained why the question was relevant, forcing Sanders to answer. Nice going, Major.

“I’ve never had to show an ID at the grocery store,” Vega pressed.

“Certainly, if you go to a grocery store and buy beer and wine you’re certainly going to show your I.D.,” Sanders replied.

“That from a president who doesn’t drink?” Vega asked.

“He is not saying every time he went in, he is saying when you go to the grocery store,” Sanders countered. “I’m pretty sure everybody in here who has been to a grocery store that has purchased beer or wine has probably had to show their I.D. If they didn’t that’s probably a problem with the grocery store.”

You know what? Points for ingenuity, Sarah. You’re technically not wrong.
