Rosie O’Donnell Caps Her Kimmel Guest-Host Run With Parody of Irish Ballad Mocking Trump: ‘Oh, Donny Boy’
Rosie O’Donnell ended her week behind the Jimmy Kimmel Live! desk with a mockingly musical message for President Donald Trump, twisting the traditional Irish ballad “Danny Boy” into a push for him to resign.
The performance concluded a week of the comedian and longtime Trump antagonist repeatedly targeting the president with short jabs during her guest-hosting run, while avoiding his actual name and instead calling him “Mango Mussolini” and “President Oompa Loompa.”
But on Thursday, she focused on mocking the president throughout her opening monologue, thanking “everyone who’s been watching this week, especially the hungry, hungry hypocrite in the White House.”
“It’s kind of weird to think he spent more nights with me this week than Melania,” she joked, jibing at recent reports that the first lady has been missing in public for weeks.
“Most of all, I’d like to thank Jimmy Kimmel for inviting me to do this and for reminding everyone that we have the right to free speech in this country, whether Orange Voldemort likes it or not,” O’Donnell then said to cheers and applause.
The comedian, who moved to Ireland in 2025 — five days before Trump was inaugurated for his second term — then dedicated her final number to a “very special boy” before launching into the parody song, reworking an Irish standard for an added edge.
To the tune of “Danny Boy,” the comedian rattled through a list of attacks on the president, mocking his polling, the White House ballroom, the Iran war, and reflecting pool drama before urging him to resign.
“O Donny boy, it’s Rosie, Rosie calling / From Hollywood, The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” O’Donnell sang. “Drop that Big Mac that we all know you’re holding / Because, my dear, I worry for you so,” she opened.
She sang on, with headlines and polling graphs cycling on screen behind her: “Poor Donnie boy, your polls, your polls are falling / Your reflecting pool is green as Mountain Dew / Your wig’s a mess, your ballroom is appalling / And with Iran, you’ve bit off more than you can chew.”
She continued: “Measles are back, inflation is a-swelling / you post all night, you’re sleeping while you work / And what’s with all this useless crap you’re selling? / Hey, sweetie pie, you’re driving us all berserk.”
“But there’s a way to end this drama / It’s time to use that stable-genius brain / Since we all know you’ll never be Obama / why not resign, and make this country great again?”
She repeated the call as she finished: “Come on, resign and make this country great again.”
The song concluded to cheers and applause from the audience as O’Donnell stood in front of an enormous American flag on the screen behind her.
