A mob went on a vandalism spree in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights Saturday night, culminating in an attack on a Jewish deli.
Witnesses estimated up to 75 teens descended upon the deli, which had reopened hours earlier after Sukkot. Surveillance video shows the teens barging in, knocking over shelves, and throwing items at the man behind the register. Most of the crowd was unable to fit inside, and ran off after a few moments, leaving the front of the store trashed.
“I’ve asked the police to put an officer on my corner many times, but I feel like I am being ignored and these ‘minor’ problems keep happening,” Gourmet Butcher owner Yanki Klein told CrownHeights.Info, adding that previous incidents had included anti-Semitic remarks. “And now this, it is a miracle that they did not manage to get all the way into the store, otherwise I would have been dealing with much more damage or worse, heaven forbid.”
Klein said that one of his brothers had been punched in the head during the attack, but declined medical attention.
According to the website, the group had already broken inside two school buses and tried to release their brakes.
