WATCH: This Is Why You Should Never Tell a Flight Attendant to ‘Shut Up’
An American Airlines passenger was removed from a Dallas-bound flight this week after bluntly telling a flight attendant to “shut up” during the safety briefing in a moment that quickly went viral online.
The exchange unfolded on Tuesday’s flight from Costa Rica to Texas, when the woman interrupted the airline’s standard pre-flight instructions.
Video posted online shows the flight attendant stepping away from the address system and confronting the traveler directly.
“Do you want to get off the plane? Because I don’t feel comfortable with you if you’re not going to follow instructions,” the attendant warned.
The passenger initially claimed she could not hear, but the crew member pressed back: “You’re not on my list as someone who can’t hear. So I’m going to ask the pilot to remove you because you’re not complying. You know what you did, right?”
Moments later, the woman was escorted from the aircraft as other passengers looked on.
The passenger’s seatmate, Jay Crenshaw, who filmed the exchange, told the New York Post he sympathized with both sides.
“The flight attendant might’ve caught a stray. I think the passenger knows she was wrong,” he said, adding: “I hope people can remember this and give her a bit of grace.”
Under his post sharing the video, Crenshaw wrote: “PSA – Listen and be kind to your flight attendants, or else.”
