Watch This Soccer Star’s Crazy Attempt to Escape Arrest During a World Cup Qualifying Match
As police chases go, this one doesn’t break any records for speed, but it still might be one of the craziest in recent memory.
It happened during the Ecuador vs. Chile World Cup Qualifier soccer match on Thursday. In the 82nd minute of the match, with Ecaudor leading 3-0, Ecuador forward Enner Valencia came off the pitch with an injury. The real reason why he departed, though, quickly became apparent.
He was on-the-run from police.
De Ripley. Enner Valencia salió en camilla, casi lo arrestan y lo llevaron con prisa a la ambulancia y así salió del estadio. Que cosas. pic.twitter.com/I7VnAWYLC3

Valencia, according to a report in the Liverpool Echo, is suspected of owing €17,000 in back child support. So after trying unsuccessfully to detain him before the game, authorities came right out on to the pitch to chase Valencia on foot.
In the crazy video above, posted to Twitter by broadcaster Andres Munoz Araneda, (and shared, stateside, by Deadspin), watch Valencia somehow evade capture in a golf cart — motoring past the pursuing officers along the sideline.
Valencia’s unlikely escape did more than buy him a little time on the lam. He avoided the arrest altogether as, according to Deadspin, the judge in his case rescinded the arrest warrant.
