Earlier in the week, a report surfaced which said that San Francisco 49ers players were lobbying for Colin Kaepernick to take over as the team’s starting quarterback. Now, it appears as though the fans are pushing for the move too.
During the 3rd quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, the fans at Levi’s Stadium chanted “We want Kaep!”

The chants, which happened during a commercial break in the game telecast, were loud enough to be noted on air by CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz.
Current 49ers starter Blaine Gabbert responded by immediately leading a touchdown drive, which cut the 49ers deficit in half, to 21-14. But the Niners went on to lose 33-21, so the calls for a quarterback change only figure to get louder.
Kaepernick, who has been the face of the 2016 NFL season for kneeling during the National Anthem to protest racial oppression, has yet to see any game action during the regular season.
After the game, 49ers coach Chip Kelly seemed to back off a bit from his previously strong support of Gabbert.
“We’re 1-4,” Kelly said. “We’ve got to make sure we’re giving ourselves the best chance to win, so we’re going to look at everything.”
