‘What Are These Fans Doing?’: Dick Vitale Blasts Kansas Fans For Leaving Game Prior to Insane Comeback

Did Kansas basketball fans not learn the hard lessons of Mark Wahlberg?

Last week, we posted about the actor — who is a longtime New England Patriots fan — leaving the Super Bowl early and missing the remarkable Patriots comeback.

Eight days removed from one of the most remarkable rallies in the history of sports, Kansas basketball fans bailed on their team and left the arena on Monday night — with 2:43 remaining and their team trailing by 14 against West Virginia.

Dick Vitale, who called the game for ESPN, jumped all over the Jayhawk supporters who departed Allen Fieldhouse with the game seemingly out of reach.

“Call ’em back!” Vitale said of the fans making their way for the exits. “They can’t do that, walk out on the kids! Can’t be just a frontrunner!”

Sure enough, Vitale was vindicated when Kansas stormed back to tie the game in regulation and force overtime, where they eventually prevailed.

“Those fans, that left, I say shame on you!” Vitale said. “Shame on you. You’re not a loyal Kansas fan. These kids deserve better. I said it then, and I’ll say it now. Played their hearts out.”
