Some of the biggest unsung heroes in news are the camera men/women and photographers who prop up the heavy equipment while the talent delivers the copy and content. And as one MSNBC photographer found out Saturday while covering a live shot for Tom Costello, things can go south in a flash.
Costello was covering the growing protests in our nation’s capital moments ago, accompanying scores of protestors as they headed south-east on Pennsylvania Avenue en route to the Supreme Court. For a third consecutive weekend, protestors have taken to the streets in cities across the country in defiance to President Donald Trump‘s executive orders on travel and immigration.
But right when anchor Richard Lui asked Costello to comment on the crowds, his photographer took a backwards stumble after presumably running into other protestors. “Whoa whoa whoa!” said Costello in the middle of his live shot.
The veteran newsman helped his colleague up to his (or her?) feet, before cooly explaining, “Sorry about that. My photographer is backpedaling — and, uh, that’s what happens when you’re walking down the street,” Costello said with a laugh.
Back in New York, anchor Lui added, “We can not thank our photographers enough.” Watch above via MSNBC.
