Winner of Zimbabwe ‘Mr. Ugly’ Contest Might Be Too Handsome
Stop the presses, because Zimbabwe’s fourth annual “Mister Ugly” pageant has selected its winner after much criticism from other contestants.
After much deliberation the judges chose Mison Sere, a 42-year-old new contestant whose winning smile included several missing teeth and “a wide range of grotesque facial expressions,” according to the Associated Press.
“I hope to get a TV contract,” said the new winner. “I already moved around schools performing and showcasing my ugliness so this is a chance to make it on TV.”
Unfortunately, Sere’s festive mood was quickly dampened by previous winner William Masvinu, who criticized the new champion of being, “too handsome” since “…he is ugly only when he opens his mouth.”
“I am naturally ugly. He is not,” said Masvinu.
Another angry contestant chimed in, wondering if participants had, “to lose [their] teeth to win?”
Despite all the criticism, Sere went home with $500 in winnings and the pride of being crowned Zimbabwe’s ugliest man in 2015. “They should just accept that I am uglier than them,” he concluded.
