Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Creating a ‘Hermetically Sealed Environment’ for Their Wedding in the Middle of NYC — Ex-NYPD Honcho Tells CNN
This weekend, the United States of America will observe an event likely to draw attention from hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding.
CNN chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst John Miller was asked about security concerns and protocol by The Situation Room co-host Pamela Brown Thursday morning. Miller, who has previous experience as the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence & Counterterrorism, noted the pair’s planned venue will offer a “hermetically sealed environment.”
That was likely one reason the pair chose the venue in the first place, he added.
“They are hoping [it’s] impervious to paparazzi and other stalkers. There’s no windows. The roof is covered. You can’t fly over it with a helicopter or a drone, and what they were looking for was privacy control and security,” Miller explained. “They will have 31st street on the south side of the garden, and 33rd street on the north side of the garden closed to traffic. Vehicles will enter through a controlled checkpoint at either one and go into a tent where a flap will come down, and then they will enter a special entrance that will take them to the place where the reception is going to be.”
Miller also offered a glimpse into the pair’s plans: “Then the next day, when we expect there is going to be a wedding, that guest list will surge from 100 close friends to 1000 close friends, and they will repeat on both sides of the building. These cars [are] coming in with tinted windows, mini buses, garage entrances—so even if fans show up, even if the press shows up, I’m sure we’ll be there, they’re not going to see much, except cars coming and cars going.”
The secrecy afforded by the venue should shield the couple and their guests from prying eyes, be they from fans or the press.
The presumed upcoming nuptials have been shrouded in secrecy, though some details have emerged as the calendar inches closer to the pair’s expected wedding date on July 3.
Swift and Kelce have not officially confirmed they’re getting married at Madison Square Garden this weekend, but New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) said this week that a permit for a “large event” had been filed at the venue, and trucks have been spotted loading equipment into the venue.
