Woman Mistakes Superglue for Eye Drops, Glues Eye Shut

Meet Phoenix resident Irmgard Holm. She had cataract surgery last year and needs medicated eye drops. For some reason, she keeps a small squeeze bottle of superglue next to the eye drops.

You can see where this is going.

Yes, last week, Holm accidentally used the glue instead of the drops. Fox 10 Phoenix reports that “the burning sensation told her immediately something was seriously wrong.” Holm attempted to wash it out but it was too late; the glue worked as advertised and sealed her eye shut.

“The bottles are identical and I am not young anymore, but I am not senile,” swears Holm.

The good news is that medical professionals were able to spare Holm permanent damage. The better news is that the FDA is scheduled to interview Holm next week. Apparently accidental eye gluing has been recognized as a serious problem since 1982 and they are looking for ways to prevent further incidents.
